Default Way to always show ally and enemy names?

Hey so is there a way to always have allies and enemies names displaying in the field? instead of having to hold control and alt?

Doubt it, but if there was, it would be in the options menu. Doing this will cause you more problems than it will solve though. Go to a town like Kamadan with a LARGE number of players and NPCs present and you will have trouble seeing anything but text. Even some areas of the game will have such large numbers of monsters, NPCs, and players that you will have trouble seeing anything but the text of their names.

I wouldn't want it to be active all the time, so never looked, but I doubt it is possible.

Put tape on your alt and control key.

Pretty sure there isn't a setting to do this by default in all areas, though theres an option to do it for nearby people in PvP.

But...but... this is my keyboard...I don't think it will work.

More on topicy. I've always wanted this for explorable areas. Kamadan would be annoying though if it was in town. XD.

Well it would be a toggle option and I would turn it off while in town?

Yes, there is. See part 1 of
Always-on target display/calling (plus numpad keybinding tips)

In short, all you need to do is turn on Sticky Keys in Windows and tweak the options. I bet you could do the same thing for allies too... never tried it.

Best kept secret in all of GW, IMHO . Although by posting it I was hoping it wouldn't have to be so secret anymore.

EDIT: Yep, you can do this for both enemies and allies, simultaneously even! For example, I bound the Ctrl keys to "Show Targets" and the Alt keys to "Show Others."

So, just enable Sticky Keys in Windows and tweak the settings accordingly. Then whenever you enter a zone, just hit Ctrl twice in quick succession and then Alt twice in quick succession. Occasionally the mode exits itself within the first few seconds, but if so, just try again until it stays. Voila, nice red and green labels everywhere!

In addition to what Jray said, you could assign the Caps Lock key to one of those functions and Num Lock to the other. (I haven't actually tried that though, but the keys can be assigned.)

BTW you have to be a bit careful mapping the Alt keys because there are a few Windows Alt key combinations that will win over Guild Wars ones (e.g., Alt-<Enter>). I've never found such a problem with Ctrl though.
